Can Filter Coffee Help Slow Aging?

Can Filter Coffee Help Slow Aging?

We are used to filter coffee tasting noticeably better than instant coffee, but beyond flavor, it has another interesting advantage.

Researchers at Chongqing Medical University analyzed data from nearly 50,000 UK Biobank participants. They compared the effects of filter coffee and instant coffee on measures related to biological aging.

After a series of analyses, the researchers found a consistent pattern. People who drank instant coffee had a higher biological-age measure (KDM-BA Accel) than those who preferred filter coffee. In the former group, higher consumption was associated with a higher score, while with greater filter-coffee consumption, this score decreased.

Similar findings emerged in other analyses using related markers. Instant coffee was more strongly associated with accelerated aging, while filter coffee was associated with slower aging.

This does not mean you should give up instant coffee altogether, but it is an encouraging sign for people concerned about their health to place greater emphasis on filtered brewing methods.
