BrootLegg Extracts Launches Cold Brew Production

Company BrootLegg has unveiled its own system for making cold coffee using high pressure, which significantly speeds up extraction. The company says it now needs just 45 minutes to make about 5 gallons of finished beverage, a process that previously took several hours.

The equipment uses a sealed stainless-steel chamber into which water is supplied at a pressure of 82.7 bar, several times higher than in the classic espresso method. The company says the system makes it possible to control temperature, pressure, the coffee-to-water ratio, and, when necessary, maintain a hot brewing phase.

According to the founder, the equipment can be scaled with virtually no limits, and increasing the volume does not affect brewing time. The company plans to increase production capacity to 100 gallons per cycle.

The company was founded by Colin Giacalone, Willie Kramer, and Chadwick Carter. They assembled the first prototypes in a home laboratory, and BrootLegg now supplies its products to more than 120 establishments across Ohio. The company plans to begin producing equipment for roasters and coffee shops. To do so, it has entered into a partnership with manufacturer Grote Company.
